4 Simple Rules to Keep Life Balanced

Approaching the happiest time of my life, I will admit, things became a little chaotic.  In the course of less than two months, I graduated from yoga teacher training and started teaching, got married, went on a honeymoon, and got a new position at work.  I have been very grateful for all these blessings and tried to stay grounded as much as possible.

One of the first things people would say to me is “How are you not losing your mind right now?!” or something along those lines.  It was overwhelming at times, sure, but there were a few rules I followed to remain balanced.

Keep to routines as much as possible

I did my best to incorporate as many of my routines as possible into each day, but I will fully admit I wasn’t able to do all 10 of my non-negotiables.  But this is okay! You have to show yourself some grace and do your best. The ones I stuck to and recommend most when things get busy: hot lemon water, meditation, getting outside, and daily expression of gratitude.

Prioritize your time

As your calendar or to-do list become flooded, spend some time truly thinking about what is most important to you.  Of course, being present with my wedding, new job, and loved ones took priority over most other things, so I took a step back from the blog, social media, and my Beautycounter initiatives.  Saying no is also important – if you happen to have free space on your calendar, it does not mean you need to fill it! Use that time instead for quality self care.

Ask for help

This is something that was new for me, to be honest!  I am used to doing a lot on my own, not because I have a need for control, but because I don’t want to inconvenience anyone.  What I learned, though, was your loved ones always want to help and the little tasks you have them do free up a lot of time. There are just things you can’t do alone, and I am so grateful for the help of my family and friends!

Have patience and trust

This could be the most important rule of them all!  Have patience with yourself and the people around you because there are going to be things that don’t go the way they are planned and there will be unexpected roadblocks. It’s so easy to get frustrated, but close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Trust it will be okay, because it will.

Whether life is overwhelming for good times or hardships, take it a day at a time.  These four tools helped me stay grounded and present to enjoy the life changes I went through, which I am so thankful for. If you have any tips you fall back on, I’d love to hear them!

Very well said and agree. For myself I also try to follow the four agreements which are:

    Speak with impeccability
    Don’t take things personally
    Don’t assume
    Always do your best
